Why high school girls shouldn’t announce play-by-plays

Welcome back!

The high school my daughters attend has a class in radio broadcasting. That means that they actually own all the necessary equipment and licenses and the kids run an actual radio station, under the management of their teacher.

One of the responsibilities that falls to the kids who’ve been in the class a while is the job of doing the play-by-play on the school’s sporting events. The play-by-play for the basketball game we listened to last night (ONLY because my daughter is in the band and I needed to know when the game ended so I could go get her) was a shining example of why these two girls should stick with discussing weight loss pills with each other and leave the sportscasting to those better suited to the job.

Two girls - we’ll call them Amy and Tiffany (because I can’t remember their names) were sharing the mike. When our team had the ball, Amy did the play-by-play and when the opposing team had possession, we were listening to Tiffany. There were a few lulls where we got to listen o the two girls discuss the game with each other.

Here’s why I say that:

  • At one point, one girl clearly said that as the end of the first half and then the other girl got the mike and announced that the second quarter would be starting soon.
  • I actually heard one of them declare that the game was tied, ten to six.
  • Later on, there was a guy running the basketball to our basket and the poor girl actually said, “GO! GO! YES!! YES!! … never mind”

I’m pretty sure that ABC’s Jim McKay has nothing to worry about from this end of the internet.

This is ROFL worthy stuff. Too bad a full transcript is not available.
