All I want for Christmas
Welcome back!
I’ve had an interest in photography for several years and not too long ago I started playing around with the “Video” mode on my old Canon. I really enjoy putting together special effect videos. A while back I used some free software that is available online and made a tutorial on how to create a Star Trek-style transporter effect using freeware. I’d really like to be able to re-do this video with a higher resolution camera, like the Aluratek Cinecam HD Digital Camcorder that’s on sale this week for under $100. That would really be cool.
My camera is limited to 30-second videos unless I want the image to be so small as to be useless due largely to the fact that it has a very small amount of internal memory and once that’s full it has to stop filming so it can dump the internal memory to the external card. That’s not as much of a handicap for the Aluratek Cinecam because it has a larger internal memory that my Canon camera. It makes a big difference when something is designed specifically for videos as opposed to something that designed for still pictures and the video functions are thrown in as an “extra feature”.

I was very dissapointed with the amount of video my camera can shoot, although the audio / video quality is very good. It’s fine for shooting clips.
I’m thinking of geting a “digital” camcorder that films onto a big memory card. This will allow for hours of video, with nice zoom etc.
I am more into cameras than into camcorders. For almost 10 years I am using only canon products and i am very pleased with the result. So, this year, for x-mas, i want a slr camera, but i’m waiting the sales period, because such a camera costs a lot, and if you add a lens then you spend a little fortune.
I’m very interested to see what kind of camera you want. Inserting special effects into personal video could be really cool.
