What ever happened to…

Welcome back!

What ever happened to awarding a position to someone based on their qualifications rather than their ethnicity? The headline at cnn.com today says, “Obama: She ‘will make a great justice’” and the article goes on to talk about federal Judge Sonia Sotomayor and the fact that she would be the first Hispanic and third female U.S. Supreme Court justice if confirmed. The article goes on to talk about the fact that she’s had experience at every level of our judicial system, but the news media in general has left me with the impression that the reason he nominated her had more to do with her gender, her Puerto Rican ancestry, and her single mother were the deciding factors. Maybe it has to do with the fact that when the media talks about her, they talk about her minority status and throw in her career as an afterthought.

I can’t agree more, playing the race card seems to be one of Obama’s favorite tricks. Amazing how he seemed to overlook her 60% ruling reversal ratio http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/may/27/60-reversal-of-sotomayor-rulings-gives-fodder-to-f/ We’ll see what the future holds, I have a feeling it will be another pick!

I totally agree that awarding a position to someone is should based on their qualifications. Because people without good records and no achievement cannot be a good public servant.
