Why does this upset people?

It’s been another one of those weeks… It seems that every time I turn on the computer and try to write something here, something else jumps up and requires my immediate attention. As a result, I am now going to write about something that the whole country has been talking about for a week and I’m going to treat it like something new. Deal with it.
It seems that during the Miss America pageant the judges asked Miss California whether she thought gay marriage should be legalized. She responded with the opinion that marriage should be between a man and a woman. She went so far as to preface her answer with the remark that she didn’t want to upset anyone. She then gave her honest opinion and explained that that was what she was raised to believe.
Why are people upset about this?
They asked for her honest opinion and she gave it. The last time I checked this was a free country and people were allowed to have their own beliefs and values. It is my belief that if you don’t want to know the answer to a particular question then you have no business asking. That’s just one man’s humble opinion, since you asked.
