The passing of a legend
Welcome back!
I saw on the evening news last night that Paul Harvey has passed away at the age of 90.
I remember 40 years ago when I was a very young child and Mom used to listen to his broadcast every afternoon. At that young age I really didn’t understand what he was talking about and had no desire to learn. All I knew was that he was that guy with the really cool voice. He could talk about anything from the war in Vietnam to disability insurance to his favorite mattress and I just enjoyed listening to his voice.
As a teenager I got the occasional opportunity to hear his daily program and have always enjoyed, “The Rest Of The Story”. Somehow my father was given a book by that name written by Paul Aurandt. It seemed strange to me that the book wasn’t written by Paul Harvey because the way the sentences were strung together, the natural flow of reading it aloud, sounded exactly like the unique way Paul Harvey spoke. Then, the last story in the book explained the mystery. The book sounded like Paul Harvey wrote it because it was written by Paul Aurandt … Harvey. Paul Harvey’s son. Who else could copy the speech patterns of Mr. Harvey so closely?
I know that the elder Mr. Harvey has been absent from his daily radio program frequently lately and I sincerely hope that the person substituting for him is willing to take on the job full-time.

This is sad, he was a breathe of fresh air in the media. Isn’t his son taking over?
