An idea for new product

Welcome back!

I need to preface this idea with a little information, and a completely unscientific opinion of my own.

Granddaughter Number One has preferred to go to sleep while lying on my chest from day one. I can get that child to go to sleep when nobody else can. All I have to do is get her calmed down a little bit then get her to put her head on my chest.

My unscientific opinion is that from the time she developed a set of working auditory organs up until the day she was born, the one sound she was able to always hear above all others is her mother’s heartbeat. I would imagine that even an unborn baby learns to find a certain comfort in that constant pulsing sound.

I have always had a very strong heartbeat. I was able to lie in bed and feel my own heart beating - not in any pressure points, but actually feel my heart moving inside my chest - even before I had two heart valves replaced (which made my heartbeat a little bit louder, by the way).

My product idea is the logical result of the above facts. It is essentially a sleep number bed for infants. The chief difference is that instead having an adjustable firmness setting, this mattress would contain inside it a device to play a recording of a human heartbeat. The thing would have an adjustment dial on it so that you could tweak the volume and speed of the heartbeat.

I really think that a lot of infants (and parents) would sleep better with such a device.
