How’s that again?

Welcome back!

Recently I heard and ad on the car radio for a tankless water heater and I was like, “a WHAT? How do you heat water without a tank?”

Seriously, what do they do, wrap some industrial strength heat tapes around your water pipes so that between time the water enters your house’s plumbing system to the time it comes out your faucet it’s been heated to 110 or 120 degrees Fahrenheit? I can’t imagine a way that you could get the water hot enough, especially on really cold days.

That’s pretty funny. Actually, when I heard those ads, I actually did go check it out. It’s a flash heating system and it does essentially what you said - it is attached to your water pipes and flash heats the water upon request for hot water. It’s pretty cool - but - very pricey.

You can buy one of these at any Home Depot type store. They are more expensive than a traditional hot water heater, but I think you save money in the long run because you are not keeping the water hot 24 hours a day.
