Thanks a bunch, fellas

Welcome back!

I’ve been meaning to write this out for a while, but there have just been too many other irons on the fire lately.

A short while ago I got an email from my little sister (I’ll bet she loves being called that, especially now that she’s a grandmother) letting me know that she wasn’t working at the place where she’d been for the last 9 years or so. It seems that after 9 years with the same company, where she started out answering phones and had advanced to a management position, she went in to work one day and, two hours into her day, was called into her boss’s office and informed that her job had been eliminated.

“Without so much as a ‘kiss my foot’ or ‘have an apple’”, (trivia question: what movie is THAT from?) she’s suddenly out the door and looking at various small business opportunities so she can work from home while helping my niece with her kids.

On the one hand, I really think she’ll be better off if she can get something going that doesn’t just make some anonymous CEO wealthy, but on the other hand, after 9 years I really think they could have given her at least a little bit of notice about what was about to happen.

You’ll never know how hard it was for me to keep that company’s name out of this post, by the way.

Stumbled upon this in a web search…the quote about kissing feet and apples is from the fabulous “White Christmas”!

    Happy Holidays!!
