I have a question

It’s a silly question, really, but the more I try not to think about it the more it nags at me. Kind of like when someone says not to think about elephants. Suddenly you can’t think about anything BUT elephants.
My question isn’t about elephants, but outdoor furniture covers. It keeps nagging at my brain: if you have “outdoor furniture”, it should be made to withstand the weather “outdoors”, so why do you have to cover it? That’s right up there with George Carlin’s remark about “Hot Water Heaters”: ‘If you’ve got hot elephants water, why do you need to heat it?’
