I stand corrected

The other day I mentioned the flea market down the road. I noticed last night that it isn’t a flea market any more. Now it’s the home base for some sort of taxi service, I think. In a way, that’s a good thing because this end of the internet is severely lacking in any form of public transportation. In another way, it’s a sad thing because it is just another sign that the American Flea Market is slowly becoming a thing of the past.

My father and my younger sister used to enjoy spending their Saturdays together hunting for forgotten treasures in the flea markets and yard sales that were to be found. These days, however, more and more people are giving up on the idea of an open-air market to sell their wares in favor of selling online.

It’s a lot easier to open an account on your favorite online auction site and set up an account at a place like authorize.net and stay home in the air conditioning while the whole world (in theory, anyway) browses your inventory.
