EntreCard policy changes
I joined EntreCard about 3 weeks ago because I was told it was a great way to improve your site’s traffic.
The short version for how it works is this: you visit other sites belonging to other EntreCard members. You drop your virtual ‘Card’ on the widget displayed on their site. You earn 1 credit for every card you drop. Other members see your card in their inbox and go to your site and drop their card. You earn 1 credit for every card dropped on your site. You use these credits to buy advertising space where your card is displayed as a ink to your site from the widget on someone else’s blog.
The only catch is that you can only drop 300 cards per day. I never had a problem with that because, even allowing for all the blogs that don’t get updated every day, it takes me a couple or three hours to drop 130 cards. If every blog was updated every day, I’d never get even close to that many drops completed.
Recently, however, The Powers That Be at EntreCard have decided that there are too many spam blogs which were created just for the purpose of dropping cards, earning credits, and selling them for cash. Their solution to this is to limit the number of cards you can drop to 600 per I.P. address per day.
Wait just a minute!
That means that, since every member of my immediate family uses the same internet connection, and we all have blogs (some more than one) on EntreCard, we are limited to 100 drops each per day.
That means that if I just drop on the list of blogs I want to hit every day and then try to return the drops I receive in a given day, I’m going to run someone else short of drops!
It has been suggested (by me and 5 other people) that EntreCard would be ahead to screen blogs that want to register instead of just allowing anyone and everyone. It has also been suggested that they should implement a system where inactive blogs are taken out of the system. Just today I saw a blog that hadn’t been updated since the middle of February and I was told of another one that hadn’t changed since December!
For my fellow EntreCarders, I’m instituting the following policy:
- If your in my list of daily places to drop, I will visit your blog daily. If your blog hasn’t been updated since the last time I was there, I won’t be dropping.
- If you drop on my blog, I’ll go look at yours. If it hasn’t been updated in the last 24 hours, I won’t be dropping. EntreCard’s new policy has made my drops too much of a commodity to just indiscriminately hand them out everywhere.
I strongly recommend that other EntreCarders take this same tact. If the problem is spam blogs that don’t get updated and are just collecting credits, then not giving them credits will limit the spammer’s income to what he’s wiling to sit there and work for. That alone will run off the average spammer!

You know..it’s a good thing I know my math..cuz this adding stuff to verify is killing me! LOL
Anyway..I have two blogs now…one is my political blog..as you know..and the other is my personal blog..which you may not realize is mine..even though you’ve been a consistent dropper on both of my blogs..and I do certainly appreciate the support!
When I heard this policy change..I was like..okay…I never really ever hit the 300 a day thing anyway. Generally, what I will do is drop only on those people who are in my inbox. In order to see who is still out there dropping and updating..I will click through someone’s add on the box…like mine up there on your blog today! :^)
Anyway..I like your idea..I’ve pretty much already been doing it. Like you, it takes me forever to drop because I actually like to read the blogs that interest me as I drop..and I will comment if I see a post I like…afterall, isn’t that what entrecard was supposed to be about?
Great post..see ya round the sphere!
