The (Other) End of the Internet

The last stop on the information superhighway. All traffic must exit in 500 feet.

Did you notice?

Did you notice the new widget (I love that word!) that appeared on my sidebar the other day?

I registered with Entrecard as a way of promoting this blog. Between that and StumbleUpon, my site traffic has grown by leaps and bounds.

Entrecard is really cool. You design a 125 x 125 image that is your card. It works just like a traditional business card that you might have printed up. You would hand your traditional business card to people whom you wanted to visit your business. Entrecard works by having its members install the widget (there’s that word again) on their websites as a place to drop Entrecards. When an Entrecard member clicks my “Drop” button, their card shows up in my Entrecard Inbox so that I can visit their site and drop my card.

What’s the point of all this card dropping? Credits, man, credits! you earn 1 credit for every card you drop (max 1 drop per blog per day, 300 drops per day) and 1 credit for every card dropped on your blog (no daily limit).

What do you do with the credits? You save up credits to buy ad space and display your card (and link) on other Entrecard enabled blogs. The price of the ad is determined by the number of cards dropped on your site over the last five days. Say, for example, your inbox received the following daily totals:

Sun - 12
Mon - 21
Tue - 27
Wed - 46
Thu - 47

The total for those 5 days is 153. That’s an average of 30.6 cards per day. Round that to 30 and then double it. It would cost 60 credits to advertise on that blog for one day.

The more cards you can drop, the more cards you’ll get dropped on you, and the more people you’ll have visiting your blog.

Is it worth the effort? Since a picture is worth a thousand words, here is my statcounter.com report for this week. I joined Entrecard on Tuesday, right after submitting my sister’s Easter bunny joke to stumbleupon:
