The cleanup continues

Six days after the tornado blew through town, the Red Cross workers are still set up at the local Church Of Christ helping people who’ve lost their homes, or lost their jobs, or otherwise had their lives disrupted.

They’re even processing paperwork to help me replace a pair of eyeglasses that was blown off of my face when the windows in that van disintegrated.

It occurs to me that the people working for the Red Cross are not local volunteers. The woman taking my information was from another part of the state and had never even been to this county before. She and the other Red Cross workers in town are not only volunteering their time, they’re spending days, and possibly weeks, away from their families.

Someone should start a push to buy engraved plaques to show appreciation to all those volunteers.
