Ever heard of this?

I noticed something strange recently, and I would really like to know if anyone else has experienced this.
Normally, our 1.5Mbps DSL connection cruises along nicely with no trouble at all. Last month, Daughter Number One came home from college for Christmas vacation. She, and her Windows Vista-based laptop (or notebook - I will never see the difference) computer were home for a month. I should interject at this point that hers is the only machine in the house running Vista. “The Big Computer” runs XP, as does Daughter Number Two’s laptop (or notebook. Eerg.) “The Little Computer” still runs Windows 98 because it’ll never handle XP. My wife’s laptop (notebook?) runs XP, but it wasn’t an issue for this discussion.
Anywho…
After Daughter Number One had been home a few days, we started having trouble with the internet connection … sites refusing to load, stuff taking forever to load, etc. This was usually fixed by unplugging the phone line from the DSL modem for a moment, but the problem kept coming back with a vengeance. By last weekend, we were having to pull this stunt 5 and 6 times a day.
Daughter Number One took her Vista machine back to college on Saturday and the connection problems stopped as soon as she was out of range of our wireless network.
We mentioned that to Daughter Number One and she said she knew several other people plagued by connection problems and they were all running Windows Vista.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is this some sort of “feature” of Windows Vista, possibly related to the fact that none of the other machines we own can share files with hers over the local network? Or, has her computer contracted some virus / worm / trojan horse program that is designed to seek out and destroy any network connection it can?
I really would like to find out before she comes home again this weekend so that, maybe, I can get the trouble fixed.
