The Thing That Wouldn’t Leave

Welcome back!

I truly dislike it when people around here decide to drop a dog off on the side of the road and drive away. We live at the end of a 3/4-mile long road whose other end connects to the highway. Every stray dog, cat, or horse (Yes, it’s happened!) invariably follows the dirt road straight to its end in our front yard.

When it happens to be a male dog who finds his way here, it never takes long for him to find, and make “friends” with our 4 female dogs. Several months later, you can usually find me and my daughters standing out in front of America’s largest retailer giving away free puppies.

The latest unwanted guest is a white and brown terrier-looking thing that’s been hanging around for about 3 weeks. I’ve tried yelling at him and throwing rocks, sticks, nuts and bolts, even golf balls at him. (Note: my aim is so bad that nothing has landed within 30 feet of him yet. I don’t think he’s in danger of being hurt. :) ) He stays just out of reach. If I walk toward him, he walks away. When I stand still for a moment, he sits down, as if to say, “You won’t catch me, but I ain’t leaving, either”.

For Christmas this year I want a BeeBee gun.
