Why bother with car alarms »

Is it me, or what?

Welcome back!

Why is it that when I ask a question, people insist on answering a different question, if they bother to answer at all?

I was reading a company’s message forum and saw a comment about a rule that was different from when I started working for this company. I asked when it had changed because if it had always been that way, I wouldn’t have been accepted there.

What I got was a whole line of discussion where other users, a forum moderator, and the company owner each assured me that this was the rule.

Only ONE of these people even acted like she knew what my question actually was - how long has this been in effect - and her answer (after a dissertation on what the rule was and how it worked) was, “I don’t know how long it’s been this way”.

I no longer even CARE how long it’s been the rule! I’m so upset about people refusing to listen to me right now I could screem - and, trust me, this is a really bad time for me to be this agitated.

    It’s not you.

I’m reminded of an old “McMillan & Wife” episode… Mac has to find the murderer at a car show. He’s decided to take Sally’s MG. She expresses dismay, claiming her car isn’t up to snuff. Mac says something like, “Relax– people don’t go to these things to look at YOUR car; they’re there to show off their own.”

I’ve noticed that persons who post on message boards (along with YouTube comment-ers, et cetera) seem far more interested in posting their own thoughts than actually reading any others.

But nowadays, people don’t read. They skim– and then mistakenly assume they comprehend.
