Why bother with car alarms

I was out handing way too much money to America’s largest retailer yesterday and as I was leaving the store there was the unmistakable sound of a car alarm.
This is nothing new, actually. It seems to me there’s a car alarm going off in that parking lot about every couple of weeks. It’s commonplace enough that when people hear that incessant “Beep Beep Beep” from an unoccupied car whose lights are flashing in time with the irritating sound, nobody pays any attention other than a passing comment about how annoying it is.
That got me wondering, something:
When was the last time that you, dear reader, heard a car alarm going off and actually reported it to the police? After all, it does indicate a crime was at least attempted.

Very true. The good ones will alert the owner of the car though if something goes wrong. I doubt people would call the cops unless they see somebody actually breaking into a car. And even then they may not depending on the area
