Sorry, I don’t speak “redneck”

Welcome back!

Every time I listen to the radio or the local news, I’m reminded of the difference learning to talk in New England made for me.

In spite of the fact that I’ve been living South of the Mason-Dixon line for 35 years, it still drives me up the wall to listen to people from this part of the country speak.

I just heard advertisements for a “realator”, a company that sells home lighting and “assessories”, and another “Rill Estate” company.

After the advertising block, the announcer started talking about next week, when our team plays “Pokuntus”. (That’s Pocahontas - a town not too terribly far from here - for those who don’t speak Redneck.)
