Freecycle - when it’s just too good to throw out

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I recently heard about The Freecycle Network. There are local chapters all over the country. Heck, there are TWO freecycle mailing lists near where I live, so there MUST be one around you.

What is The Freecycle network, I hear you ask. Let’s say you’ve got some luggage that you’re never going to use again and you’re considering throwing it away. Remember, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. If you’re a member of The Freecycle mailing list in your area, you could post a message on that list that explains you’ve got some Samsonite luggage you’d like to give away. Then, someone else sees the message, decides they want the luggage, and contacts you to make arrangements to pick it up.

The only catch is that anything you put on the freecycle list has to be a give-away - no selling allowed - and as a matter of courtesy they ask that you offer something as a give-away before you start posting about what you want.

As long as you’re not looking to make a profit from you’re discarded items, this is a great way to avoid filling up the local landfills with it all.
