Does anyone else find closed captioning to be distracting?
I was sitting in the pharmacy the other day and they had a TV showing some talk show with the closed captioning turned on. I have always had this problem: I can either listen to somebody talk, or I can read. I cannot do both. Period. My wife and I have had more than one heated discussion because I was reading while she was talking and I didn’t even know she was speaking.
On this occasion, however, I was able to keep my ears tuned in enough to notice that the captioning wasn’t exactly 100% accurate with what was being said. This made it even more distracting because then I was trying to both read and listen, knowing that I’m no good at doing both at once.
