What is happening to our schools?

In another post earlier today I was complaining about how people seem to have forgotten the significance of what happened six years ago today. Here is a shining example.
My two youngest girls came home from school today and informed us that the school had an assembly today about Sept. 11th. They, however, couldn’t tell us any more about the assembly because they’re both in Junior Band and the band director decided that it was more important for them to sit and listen to a sales pitch about the overpriced Christmas stuff they’re going to be selling as a fund-raiser.
Want more proof that people have forgotten? My youngest daughter was 6 when the Twin Towers fell. Today, she heard her mom and me talking about that day and she asked, “Who’s Osama bin Laden?” Do our schools not even care enough about Historical Events to tell the children the names of the people involved?
Oh, and that fund-raiser? The kids were told that if they didn’t participate then they would not be allowed to attend All-Region Band tryouts. Since when is elegibility for the All-Region Band determined by your ability to sell and not your ability to play a musical instrument?!
We’ll be calling the school in the morning.

Raising Money for Band Upstages 9/11 Assembly…
As most US citizens (and plenty from around the world as well) are aware, yesterday was the sixth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01. There were ceremonies and such held all over the country to remember the nearly 3,000 people who died in…
Your daughters WERE NOT told they had to participate in the fundraiser to audition for the All Region Band. That’s a fact.
