Where in the world is Hannah, Montana?

The other day I was picking up some dog food and sodas at America’s largest retailer when I walked by the display of posters and saw one of this little blonde girl with the caption “Hannah Montana”. I wondered to myself, “where’s that?” and went on my way.
Then, a few days later, I was at the local elementary school and heard a couple of kids talking about a Hannah Montana tour. For a moment I considered whether I thought it was likely that two sixth-graders would be the least bit interested in going on a tour of some small town named Hannah and located in Montana. Then I decided I’d better check this out a little more.
I went home and put the name “Hannah Montana” into my favorite search engine and, instead of looking at a map of the state of Montana, I found myself at www.tv.com.
It seems that I’m once again paying for the fact that I don’t bother with television, past the news broadcasts. Here’s what I learned:
- “Hannah Montana” is a television show about a girl who is a mild-mannered teenaged girl (Miley Stewart) by day and a famous pop singer (Hannah Montana) by night.
- The character “Hannah Montana” is played by Miley Cyrus, daughter of country music star Billy Ray Cyrus. (He’s the one who tortured us all with “Achy Breaky Heart” a few years back.)
- Hanna Montana (or, if you’d prefer, Miley Cyrus) has a music video called “Live Is What you Make It”. When I saw that song title, I couldn’t get it to make sense. In the English language, the word live can have a short vowel sound, (“That’s where I live”) or a long vowel sound (“Live, from New York, it’s Saturday Night!”) but neither pronunciation will get this sentence to make sense. Once curiosity finally won out, I played the video and learned something else.
- The name of the song is “Life Is What You Make It”. Little Miss Wonder-Kid has misspelled the name of her own song!! I really think she needs to hang up the microphone and go back to school.
