I despise being lied to
Welcome back!
<rant>
I’ve mentioned here before that my heart surgeon is insisting that I take blood thinners because of my artificial heart valves.
I’ve mentioned here before that everything I’ve learned about heart valves in the last two years says that blood thinners are not generally required if one has tissue valves (which I do) as opposed to mechanical valves (which I don’t).
At the end of July I saw my surgeon again and asked him about the blood thinners again. He simply said that it would be a good idea to keep taking them. When I asked him WHY it was a good idea, his answer was, “I’m not going to jump up and down if you don’t take them” and it was made clear that the visit was over.
Next day, my wife was on the phone with his nurse who said (after putting a long distance call on hold for ten minutes to check with someone) that the surgeon would send my family doctor a letter saying that he would allow me to discontinue the coumadin if I agreed to take one asprin a day instead.
Today I saw my family doctor who showed me the letter he got from the surgeon. It said in no uncertain terms that I was not to discontinue the coumadin for any reason. Period.
Throw in the fact that this letter was not sent because my wife called. This was sent in response to a querry from my family doctor about what the situation was. The letter they talked to my wife about was never written.
I just love being lied to.
I especially love being lied to by someone who charges $300 for the priviledge of being lied to.
These people are doctors . . . not cops. I don’t understand why I should feel obligated to do something self-destructive just because they said to. It’s not like they’re going to arrest me if I don’t.
