* Ketchup was sold in the 1830s as medicine.

Given some of the other things that people were doing in the early 1800’s, I’m not surprised. There were people selling all sorts of miracle cures for everything from insomnia to the common cold - and most of those “remedies” were just moonshine with fancy-looking labels.

      Dad used to get all uptight because my brother would put catchup on almost anything.

      I still like to put it on green beans, corn, and mac&cheese. Now it’s my wife who gets disgusted.

    … I wonder if french fries were medicine too? j/k it is funny to think that people can use ketchup for medicine.
