Ebay is hazardous to your mother’s health

Selling on ebay can be hazardous to your mother’s health.

I have been registered on eBay since Nov-06-03. In the 3 1/2 years I’ve been an eBayer, I’ve only bought 30 items and sold 1, so it could be argued that I’ve not had enough experience to make any sort of claims as to what ebay will or will not do for/to your relatives. In my defense, however, I will state that I’ve been watching my wife buy and sell on ebay for six and a half years, and her feedback score is 1194. I’ve had the opportunity to sit and watch better than 90% of those transactions.

I find it incredible how many times one or the other of us has bought something and the instant we pay for it some tragedy happens to the seller or, if we’re selling something, then the buyer has a death in the family before getting a chance to pay for the item.

I’m not exaggerating one bit when I say that of the 31 ebay transactions I have personally been involved in at least half involved someone telling me a sob story about how a parent or sibling had died or was near death’s door, or how they couldn’t get the item shipped because of a computer error or misprinted label.

My wife has one particular person from whom she buys on a regular basis and every time she does, this woman sends my wife an explanatin for the delay in shipping that involves the death of a family member. We have had at least three different emails from this person over the course of a year all saying that her mother had just died. My wife keeps buying from her because once you allow for the delay caused by her mother’s death, the product is really a bargain.

I suggested to my wife that the next time she buys from this person, include a note with the payment that says, “Sorry to hear about your mother’s passing.”
