* Chocolate affects a dog’s heart and nervous system; a few ounces will kill a small sized dog.
I’ll be straight with you. I don’t believe that for a second. My sister-in-law has a small dog that is half Shitz-Tuz and half Poodle (She’s a Shitz-Poo!) who has been eating little bits of chocolate for longer than the 11 or 12 years I’ve known her. Her only medical problems have more to do with the fact that she’s almost blind from cateracts and not so much her heart or nervous system.

Chocolate is bad for dogs, but in small amounts, as with anything toxic, an immunity can be built up. Google a bit, you’ll see that a teaspoon full might not be that bad for average dogs, but more can cause seizures and death
I hadn’t thought about the possibility of the dog building up an immunity to it. Good point.
Honestly, though, it i my opinion that anyone feeding chocolate to a dog needs to have their head examined anyway. Dogs eat Dog Food. PEOPLE eat chocolate.
I have to disagree all the way. (My head will be examined some day, I’m sure) Our dog ate several big pieces of chocolate at a time way back when she was a puppy. She got those Hershey kisses, at least 7-10 pieces at a time. Of course, at the time, I was unaware that chocolate was supposedly awful for doggies. There was no shot I would risk her health on a couple of chocolate pieces. BUT, this dog is a chocoholic. She loves it and it has never done a thing to her but make her want more. Ever.
These days, she eats dog food because she needs that now. She’s a senior. So I guess maybe I should have my head examined except I don’t want to.
