The test on my heart yesterday wasn’t as bad as I anticipated. I explained to the nurse handling the anestetic what happened the last time I had that test done and she said she’d go really easy on the medication - which she did. She had told me several times that, while I wouldn’t lose consiousness, I wouldn’t remember the proceedure. Actually, even the next morning,I remember every minuit of it.

It was a different cardiologist doing the test this time and, according to his interpretation of the results, my artificial valves are fine, the problem is entirely caused by my (natural) tricuspid valve leaking “severely”.

He talked about the possibility of repairing it and the possibility of just replacing it, but both of those are things I need to talk about with my surgeon next Tuesday.

Personally, I have the attitude that if it’s leaking that badly, don’t mess with trying to fix it. Cut that sucker out and stick another artificial valve in there.

If you’re wondering, my artificial valves are not mechanical valves. They’re bovine pericardial tissue valves.

The pericardium is a bag that covers your heart. They took one of these off of a cow and made a heart valve using tissue from it.   Moo. :-D
