How I deal with SPAM

I don’t know how many times I’ve heard the comment that the best way to deal with SPAM emails is to delete them unread - preferrably with some sort of filtering software to automate the process.
I prefer to take a more pro-active approach because 1) I don’t trust filters. I’ve seen too many times when something got nuked by accident and 2) I want the satisfaction of knowing that I’m actually doing something that will eventually get a spammer shut down.
A while back, I created an account with SpamCop. They sent me a special email address that I forward my SPAM to. Once their system recieves the email, they send me a quick note that the SPAM is ready for processing. The email contains a link to do just that. Clicking that link will take me to SpamCop’s website where I get a full breakdown of their analysis of the SPAM.
SpamCop does all the ugly work of hunting through email headers and checking ‘whois’ info and hands me a nice list of email addresses to whom the SPAM should be reported. This includes the ISP of the system where the email originated as well as the ISP for every website mentioned in the SPAM.
I’m given a last opportunity to make sure that the email is, in fact, SPAM and then, with the click of a ‘Submit’ button, I get to make some Spammer’s life miserable.
Who says there’s no justice?
