Fried computer, anyone?

The computer where my thingamablog databases (and backups!) live started acting up today. The main complaint was that I couldn’t load any web pages and, when I disconnected my modem (I hate dial-up!) I couldn’t re-connect to my ISP. At some point in all this, I put my hand on the back of the machine and discovered that it was -=*(HOT)*=- - and I don’t mean “good looking”. I figured that it would be a good idea to let it cool off, so I shut it down. Two hours later, when I tried to restart it, the power would come on for 10 or 15 seconds and then it would go back off. A quick consultation with my brother revealed that his computer acted the same way when his CPU died. Removing the CPU didn’t change the way the machine acted at all. I figure that if it works the same without the CPU as it does with the CPU, then it’s a safe bet that the CPU isn’t doing anything. Crud.
