A replacement for the IMG tag??

Yup. You read that right. A place called BritePic is hyping a system that will allow you to get more bang out of your images:

* A caption that rolls out across the top of the image when the mouse goes over it.
* Your customized logo in the lower corner of the image.
* A button in the opposite bottom corner that pops up a menu allowing you to zoom the image, link to or embed the image, subscribe to an RSS feed, or go visit BritePic’s website.
* embed Advertisements that jump out on the top part of the picture when pointed to. This allows BritePic users to make a little cash.

Frankly, I like the fact that this makes it just that much harder for someone to steal your images. I realize there are about a gazillion other ways, but this eliminates the “Right Click->Save Image As” procedure By right-clicking, the best you can do is get hold of the source to embed the image in another web page, but payment for any ads still goes to the original poster, so it could be said that copying images actually HELPS you by getting the ads out and around.

No, before anyone says it, this is not a sponsored or paid post. I posted this because I came this -><- close to signing up with them just now but I was stopped by two things:

* The registration form insists that I hand over my real address and telephone number. They claim it’s so they can snail-mail a check to me if I use their advertising options, but that doesn’t explain why they need my phone number?!
* The URL where the registration form is located is not anywhere on the BritePic.com domain it’s at https://www.adbrite.com/mb/britepic_landing_page.php?refer_source=britepic

Has anyone ever heard of either of these places?
