A comment about comments.

This evening I recieved a comment on a recent post followed by a frantic email asking me to remove that user’s email address from the comment. I have done as the user requested and I have put a notice in the comment form which I will repeat here:

If you put an email address in the comment form, that email address will be published with your comment. If you don’t want your address published, then don’t put it in the form. You have been warned. I do not intend to spend my time editing a data file and removing email addresses. I did it this once because I’m willing to accept partial responsibility because I didn’t STATE that the user’s email address would be made public. That statement has been made, so fixing your mistakes is no longer my responsibility.

Six months ago I might not have taken this attitude, but I’ve recently come to the realization that have a working knowledge a whole bunch of things - programming in several languages, web design and promotion, photography, astronomy for starters - but I’d do better to spend more of my time focused on one thing and become really good at it. Editing data files by hand, unfortunately, wasn’t my first choice of what skill to concentrate on improving.
