The more things change . . .

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “the more things change, the more they stay the same” As an example of just how true those words are, let’s compare life today with life forty years ago.

1967

  • It seems everyone is driving a Volkswagon Beetle. They’re economical and just basically a fun car.
  • Kids everywhere are wearing tie-dyed t-shirts, hip-huggers, and bellbottoms.
  • There is a growing movement to protect the environment.
  • The U. S. President, Lyndon Johnson, is from Texas.
  • The price of crude oil hits record highs, causing gas prices to skyrocket.
  • Many Americans are protesting the U.S.’s involvement in the war in Vietnam.

2007

  • Volkswagon has re-introduced the beetle because it’s small, sporty, and economical.
  • Kids everywhere are wearing tie-dyed t-shirts and ‘low-rise’ jeans with ‘flared legs”.
  • There is a growing movement to protect the environment.
  • The U. S. President, George W. Bush, is from Texas.
  • The price of crude oil hits record highs, causing gas prices to skyrocket.
  • Many Americans are protesting the U.S.’s involvement in the war in Iraq.

I have now doubt that the list goes on and on, but I’m going to leave that research to you, the reader. Cool? … Groovy.
