Groundhog Day

Yeah, if I had anything to say about Groundhog day then I should have said it a couple of days ago. I was busy. deal with it.

Anywho…

I want to understand a few things about groundhog day…

* Whose bright idea was it to get a rodent to determine how much longer Winter will last? Why not a horse or a cow?

* How long to Groundhogs live? According to http://www.groundhog.org/faq/,

There has only been one Punxsutawney Phil. He has been making predictions for over 120 years!

* Why is it based on whether or not he sees his shadow? Why not something like whether or not old Phil can make it outside on the magic day . . . he IS over 120 years old, you know.

And, has ANYONE ever thought the logic of Groundhog Day through:

If old Phil sees his shadow then we’re supposed to have six more weeks of Winter. If, on the other hand, Phil forgets his glasses and doesn’t see his shadow, then Winter will end on schedule . . . on March 21st . . . which is . . . umm, let’s see . . . SIX WEEKS after Groundhog day.

So, either it’s going to be six more weeks or, if we’re lucky, only six more weeks.

No wonder Groundhog.org claims that Phil has a perfect record.
