emailing petitions . . .DON’T DO IT!

Tonight I got another one of those ‘petitions’ in my email that cries about something that needs to be prevented (even though it was prevented literally 30 years ago!) and then goes on to instruct the reader to add his name to the list and forward it to everyone on earth.
Anything that says to forward a copy to everyone you know should be taken with a grain of salt and then deleted. Think about this: I make up a petition and send it to 2 people. They each send it to just 2 people. There are now 4 copies of the petition, each with one of two different signature lists. Those 4 copies each get sent to 2 people. There are now 8 copies, each with one of 4 signature lists. Imagine how many copies of it are floating around by the time there are 3000 names! I worked it out on a calculator and the answer has over 900 digits in it!
. . . and each one carries instructions to send the final list to the President.
How effective do you think flooding someone’s mailbox to the breaking point would be? FYI, that’s called a Denial Of Service (DOS) attack and most Internet providers will cancel someone’s account for instigating it.
